A Quintessential Greek Revival House in Beautiful Sag Harbor

What comes to mind when you think of the perfect house for you? Do you envision a new farmhouse, an English cottage, or a mid-century modern ranch? My dream house is old with good bones and a few quirks thrown in for fun. Today’s Greek Revival house renovated by Heiberg Cummings embodies what I consider to be the perfect home (for me, anyway).

What I love about this restoration is that all of the original architecture was restored while adding amenities for modern living. The home retains its soul and you immediately feel its roots from 1834 when crossing the threshold onto the beautiful wide-plank wood floors.

The vaulted family room is light and airy and adorned with a gallery of vintage art prints. Neutral tones are used throughout the home, creating a soothing palette. French doors to the left lead out to a custom brick patio (pictured later in this post).

Some people might not enjoy the small bespoke kitchen, but I love it. The custom open shelves maintain an open vibe along with the many windows along the wall. The appliances and cabinetry are top notch making it an appealing cooking space.

The living room boasts a white fireplace with an adjacent built-in arched cabinet. The original wood floors have a chance to shine in this 1950-square-foot Greek Revival house.

The dining room is centrally located in the home, with a four-season rustic porch through the far door. Note how the chairs are placed near the walls of the room instead of gathered around the table. This provides a better flow of traffic from one room to the next. In older homes, you often have to get creative with furniture placement.

Beds are tucked under the eaves for a cozy night’s sleep.

The yard features several gathering spots including this dining area on a red brick patio. Plenty of trees provide shade for cool dining during the summer months.

  1. Gorgeous home–I just love it when an old home’s history is respected and restored instead of stripped out. I spend a lot of time in Sag Harbor in the summertime and see a lot of homes just like that and most of the time they are restored beautifully. Thanks for the opportunity to peek inside!
