Nothing sets the tone for a warm, inviting home quite like a beautiful fireplace. Whether you’re curling up with a good book, gathering with loved ones, or simply enjoying a cozy Saturday, the right fireplace can transform your space into a haven of comfort and style.
When it comes to fireplace design, my personal favorite is anything historic. This primitive mantel evokes feelings of nostalgia and memories of yesteryear. It doesn’t appear to be working since candles are placed in the center. I like the painted brick hearth and the contemporary furniture which gives the room eclectic appeal.
If you lean toward transitional style, you’re likely to love this living room. Transitional decorating combines traditional elements with modern styling and this space pulls it off beautifully.
Out of today’s fireplace designs, this one reminds me of the one in my childhood home. It was built with stone similar to this. My brother and I figured how to climb the stones to reach the top. Our living room had a vaulted ceiling so the fireplace was fairly tall. He hid his money on the top rock and wasn’t happy when I was able to finally reach it. Scaling the stones was our in-house version of rock wall climbing.
Here’s another stone fireplace, this one painted white for a lighter look in a small living room.
Brick can also be painted white to give dramatic appeal against a dark wall. Gold accessories like the mirror, fireplace screen, nearby bar cart, and fireplace utensils lend a bit of glam. Of particular interest is the patterned tile hearth.
Just the opposite, this brick beauty is painted black to blend in with the wall.
We can’t talk about fireplace designs without including a Victorian example or two. I like the simplicity of the mantel treatment with a simple bonsai tree and a small owl print. It allows the beauty of the fireplace to be fully appreciated without decorating distractions.
Here’s another gorgeous Victorian example in a moody room.
Lucky is the person who owns an historic home with a functioning fireplace. The leather chairs are a perfect complement to the warm honey wood tones in this space. Don’t you want to crawl into the picture and get cozy in one of those chairs with a good book?
Also lucky is the person with a warming fire in their bedroom. I like the design of the big blocks of stone on the lower part with stucco on the upper section. The wood beams enhance the shape and vibe. Discover more bedroom fireplaces.
A brick fireplace in an historic home must have been re-done. Look carefully and you’ll see a bi-centennial brick that says 1776-1976 on it. I remember the bicentennial because it was the year we went to Jamaica. That was a good decision, too. The island wasn’t crowded because most Americans stayed in the states that summer to celebrate.
Here’s your classic farmhouse variety fireplace made of stone and a large, roughhewn wooden mantel.
And finally, today’s collection of fireplace designs ends with a fun Victorian example painted pink! I love the little line-up of colorful birds on the mantel.

I like the one that says “Stay Awhile”! Fun to look at all of them though.
They each had their own charm but, I did love the original fireplace in the Historical home.
Pink is my favorite color and always makes me smile, but the white fireplaces are my picks. They make the rooms happier and brighter, for me that matters.
I love the rustic fireplace in the historic home and the slab one in the bedroom.
I have two fireplaces in my home, one with a black marble surround and white painted raised panel mantel and overmantel, and one with a brick surround and antique long-leaf heart-pine mantel and overmantel. They have different vibes, but they are both gas-fired, so easy on and easy off! Wish I had one in my bedroom!
