Outstanding Classic Coastal Home with Modern Comfort in Mind
Located in the town of Topsfield in the north shore area of Massachusetts lies a classic coastal home by Cummings Architecture + Interiors designed with style and modern comfort. A wonderful mix of vintage and traditional decorating creates an ambiance perfect for any family.

The living room is dressed in shades of pale blue and tan, mimicking the colors of the shoreline that surrounds Massachusetts. Linen fabrics provide casual comfort on the sofa and armchairs that enjoy a fireplace on one side, and a large screen television on the other. You get a glimpse of the sun room through the French doors at the far end of the living space with its vaulted ceiling.

The sun room features tan walls and a checkerboard-stained wood floor. A rattan sectional sports pale-striped cushions while a patterned arm chair provides a pop of bold color in the corner. Of course, the real star in the room is the beautiful Bernese mountain dog.

Let’s follow “Bernie” into the pretty white kitchen with an Indian rug and a large window over the apron sink. Texture was added to the ceiling in the form of beadboard planks. I remember when my father added this same type of ceiling in our kitchen, except he left it natural wood instead of painting it.

A sliding pocket door with a glass window leads into a convenient pantry, which is also lined in painted bead board.

Marble counter tops lend an air of elegance while rich wood floors and leather bar stools add some warmth and depth to the kitchen. A bit of vintage is brought in with a schoolhouse clock on the wall.

A lovely shade of mustard yellow is found in the cozy mudroom of this classic coastal home with brick flooring laid in a herringbone pattern.

A traditional wood table cozies up to a striped settee along a window while raffia woven dining chairs with patterned seat cushions gather round the other sides for comfortable seating. A beautiful wood-grain windowed door leads outside.

I love this wallpapered bedroom with its modern pendant light and poufy linen comforter. A pocket door opens to a convenient walk-in closet.

A spa style bathroom enjoys plenty of natural light through the windows while simple cafe curtains lend a bit of privacy. The checkerboard tile floor repeats the pattern from the downstairs sunroom while a unique pendant light keeps watch overhead.
