Rustic Lake House in Beautiful Michigan

Have you ever been to the northern end of lower Michigan? Perhaps you’ve visited charming Mackinac Island, a popular vacation spot situated between the mitten of Michigan and its upper peninsula. Today’s rustic lake house is located in Charlevoix, about an hour’s drive away from that beautiful island.

While the outside of the home features a modern Victorian style, the inside exudes all the warmth of an elegant yet warm cabin. Floor-to-ceiling windows throughout the rustic lake house provide amazing views of the world outside.

Despite the vaulted ceilings and expansive views, the living room feels quite warm and cozy. Can you picture a snowy day outside the windows that are framed with logs?

A massive stone fireplace creates a focal point between the walls of windows on either side of the stunning living room. I’ll bet it’s beautiful decorated for Christmas.

A cozy dining corner on the other side of the stone fireplace enjoys beautiful views of trees and nature. Rough hewn beams work their way around the windows and up the vaulted ceiling.

This is my favorite room in the house! I find myself wanting to bake bread or decadent cinnamon rolls in the rustic kitchen with a stone surround above the stove. A trail of reindeer statues marches along one of the wooden beams adding a bit of whimsy.

You’ll find more deer peering at you from the end of an impressive hallway outfitted with natural wood. It’s as though someone left the door open to let the critters wander inside. A cozy built-in window seat provides a place for reading or day dreaming.

A luxurious faux fur throw adorns the bed in a neutrally decorated bedroom. The soft colors inside let you enjoy all the fabulous colors outside without taking away from Mother Nature.

Beautiful twin sinks adorn a bathroom decorated with wood cabinetry and louvered doors. A gray slate tile floor completes the look.

  1. If it weren’t for all that snow and cold (not like Indiana never gets snow) we’d move to Michigan up by the lake. It’s so beautiful. This house has great character. Those deer! So fun! That sitting place in front of the open french doors is just so inviting, so pretty! Hope your finding your retire spot. I’m looking:0)

    1. Hi Lori!

I’m in complete agreement with you! I too would retire to Michigan – or Wisconsin – if it weren’t for the weather. Once Christmas is over I’m ready for the snow to be gone. I won’t be retiring for a few more years yet, but we’re headed to Chattanooga next spring to see if it’s a contender. Do you have a retirement place in mind yet?

  2. Breathtakingly beautiful! Yes, I bet it is gorgeous decorated for Christmas. I could totally be snowed in there for a few days. Thanks for sharing, Jennifer.

  3. Love that kitchen and all the beautiful spaces to sit, listen and watch nature. Watching it snow would be so peaceful, no need for tv, perfect retirement place.

  4. That house was absolutely beautiful.
Makes me want to visit Michigan.
    Thanks for sharing it!
