A Little Magic Transforms a Cozy Cottage in Florida

What began as a sunny Florida escape for one couple soon evolved into the home they never wanted to leave. Covid shifted priorities and the owners found themselves savoring the joy of sunny coastal living. The kitchen was remodeled while collected antiques and art were added to the cozy cottage.

Soft neutrals, generous seating, and the incoming natural light set the tone for this welcoming living room. Comfy armchairs and linen textured furniture gather round the pale blue coffee table creating an intimate conversation area. The room is refined and relaxed all at once.

A skirted table styled with books, a wicker lamp, and fresh blooms brings a charming cottage-like layer to the room. I love the grid of butterfly prints that adds a touch of whimsy and color, balancing the soft palette with delicate detail.

Soft blue buffalo-check chairs frame a simple wood side table, creating a charming seating moment that feels both casual and tailored. The patterned blue lampshade and petite boxwood topiary add texture and personality, tying this vignette into the collected, coastal palette of the cozy cottage.

Along the staircase, a built-in provides opportunity for the homeowners to display favorite treasures. A display light enhances the shelved vignettes in the evening and adds to the cozy vibe. The cane-back bench tucked beneath the stairs makes clever use of the space while enhancing the home’s breezy aesthetic.

In the dining area, the same pale blue buffalo-check fabric adorns chairs that cozy up to a rich wooden pedestal table, creating a charming mix of rustic and coastal elements. The lantern-style chandelier adds architectural interest without overwhelming the room, while the trio of pleated café curtains filters the Florida sun in the sweetest way.

I love the nearby rustic wood chest paired with a classic oil painting a picture light to enhance the artwork. Flowers from the garden and a small stack of favorite books create the finishing touch for this pretty vignette.

Adjacent to the living room, the cozy cottage kitchen features soft neutral cabinetry and warm brass hardware to create a soothing, timeless backdrop. Botanical artwork and a well-loved wooden stool add an organic touch that complements the home’s relaxed Florida vibe. A Turkish rug adds subtle, beautiful pattern underfoot.

A sculptural range hood and marble backsplash lend a refined elegance to the culinary space, balanced by wood cutting boards and a small lamp that make the room feel cozy and lived-in.

The navy blue kitchen island serves as the heart of the space, with its crisp marble top, and cross-back counter stools that lend texture and warmth. Glass-front cabinetry displays a curated collection of blue-and-white pieces, enhancing the room’s subtle coastal style while keeping the overall look timeless and welcoming.

The four-poster bed takes center stage with its paisley patterned footboard and headboard and crisp white bedding, creating a serene retreat with soothing natural light. Soft blue lamps, and a seaside painting above the bed echo the relaxed coastal surroundings that first drew the couple to Florida.

  1. I like the use of lamps on the kitchen island. However, I wonder how grey are powered—if they are corded or battery operated. Any ideas?
