Discover a Designer’s Rustic New England Home with Vintage Appeal

Today’s home feature looks like it’s been around for hundreds of years, but it’s actually fairly new. The rustic New England home was designed by Marisa Bistany Perkins to serve as her family’s Connecticut weekend getaway. Photographed by Laura Moss, the home appeared in a 2016 issue of New England Home.

The pool house, above and below, is a custom barn that includes a bathroom and kitchen that leads outdoors to a fireplace and gathering areas. A pass-through window provides easy access to food when entertaining.

Inside the home itself, you’ll find a large, rustic hallway wrapped with wood and stone. Skylights and large windows allow natural light to flow in while southwestern patterns on the rug and pillows provide a nice pop of color. Note the oversized pocket doors leading into the great room.

The great room enjoys a casual, earthy vibe with a large fireplace created from stone secured from the original home’s foundation before it was razed due to years of neglect. A mix of patterns can be seen throughout the rustic New England home, along with vintage treasures.

Native American artifacts, dotted with houseplants, populate the industrial style shelves flanking the impressive fireplace.

The custom kitchen is open and spacious while embracing the rustic vibe seen throughout the home. Blue-gray cabinetry enjoys mullioned, mirrored doors that help to reflect light in the room.

The dining room is a bit more elegant and formal than the rest of the rustic New England home. A simple wallpaper pattern provides a warm backdrop for the upholstered end chair and the side chairs with purple seats. Similar colors in the arm chair and rug help the two patterns blend together as opposed to fighting each other.

A more formal bedrooms suits the adults (and the dog). Vintage landscapes line the wall next to the striped, upholstered bed while a rug and bedding create interest with their various patterns and colors.

Although today’s rustic New England home is a weekend getaway for the family, it could easily be enjoyed as a year-round home.

  1. I love this! Love the rusticness (is that a word lol?) and everything in it! Not sure about the headboard in the adult bedroom though, but that’s the only thing I wasn’t sure of lol.
