Old English Home in Shabby Chic Style

home tour July 11, 2021

Have you watched the Downton Abbey series? I recently finished binge-watching the seasons over a few weeks and I miss it already! To help me get over my sorrow at having finished the show, I’m featuring an old English home decorated in shabby chic style with loads of detailed trim work.

The basics of shabby chic style include a white palette along with pastel pinks and blues. Floral patterns, painted floors, vintage treasures, and slip covered furniture add a touch of romantic prairie. Add in a little glam with crystal chandeliers and embellished, golden mirrors and you’ve got the makings of the decorating style that put Rachael Ashwell on the map.

I love the bit of stained glass windows and doors that lead out to the gardens.

If it weren’t for the weather, I could see myself living in pastoral England with thatched cottages and grand castles like Downton Abbey. Did you know you can tour the castle featured in the show, which is actually Highclere Castle? There’s also lodging on the grounds and you can reserve a time to have tea at the castle. Wouldn’t that be fun?

But back to today’s more modest, old English home. An old writing bureau is tucked into a charming nook to create a home office. Note the rotary phone in the corner. I can imagine the colors streaming into the room when the sunlight passes through the stained glass.

A gorgeous antique rocking horse takes center stage in front of bay windows with plantation shutters and stained glass windows. Detailed crown molding adds to the overall beauty of this space.

A beautiful claw foot tub is framed between board and batten walls. The white ceramic door knob caught my eye, too.

A beautiful vintage is mirror is painted gray and hung above the sink. I love the beautiful scrollwork adorning the mirror.

The boats and wooden bird make me wonder if this old English home is located by the sea.

A floral comforter and velvet pillows ooze shabby chic style. Curtains are kept simple in white, flowy fabric. Potted flowers add a bit more color to create a dreamy and feminine bedroom.

I love the simple, elegant beauty of this home with its sweet style. I hope you enjoyed it, too.

Lovely home! Of all things, I adore the rocking horse! I am planning on rewatching Downton Abbey as it has been a few years. Don’t forget there is also a Downton Abbey Movie if you haven’t already included it in your binge watch. I also have been watching NCIS for the last couple of summers, having never watched the series. With 17 seasons it goes on awhile and the characters almost become like family members…or maybe that is just me…:)
